IvyBoost Success Story: A Student’s Path to Boston University
A.T. was a confident and opinionated student from a public high school in Fremont.
While A.T. was academically strong, she sought out IvyBoost early on to prepare for college admissions with an eventual goal towards an elite institution with great programs for a writing-related major.
With the encouragement and big picture planning from her IvyBoost counselor, A.T. was able to pursue enriching extracurriculars and focused engagement in career-related experiences to receive an Early Decision acceptance from Boston University for a journalism major!
How did A.T. develop her foundation and career passion during her high school years with her counselor for this goal?
Engage with Meaningful Leadership in Community:
In addition to advice on career experiences like a summer program with The New York Times, A.T. also took initiative in organizing for social justice issues at her local public library and high school, while also starting her own literary magazine to reflect voices of the local community.
Pursue Challenging Academics:
A.T. grew and learned to handle a demanding academic schedule, with advice on rigorous courses for humanities and in areas outside of her strengths. She demonstrated growth and academic confidence by successfully pushing through an AP Biology course even if it was a subject that was not in her usual forte, as well as engaging with up to 7 AP subjects inside and outside the classroom.
Thoughtful College Exploration:
Her counselor guided A.T.’s college search to institutions outside of California with a focus on both journalism and public relations as her choice of field, while simultaneously taking into account A.T.’s preferences towards the college reputation, internship opportunities, and strength of academics.
In Spring of 2026, A.T. was thrilled to see her hard work show results with an ED acceptance at Boston University, where she looks forward to growing in her communication and writing skills in journalism!
