Writing and Reading Workshop

Dear Students and Parents,

IvyBoost is happy to announce that Writing and Reading Workshop (8-10th grade) will be offered this school year!

With writing being such a critical component in college, it’s imperative that students have a strong foundation that will aid them in their studies and eventually help them take the SATs.  The good news is that students who have trouble with writing often know what’s in their heads in an abstract manner.  However, they often don’t have the tools to properly express themselves with detail and clarity which causes them to struggle.

IvyBoost’s Writing and Reading Workshop offers a curriculum to 8-10th graders that will give them the tools to successfully bring ideas from the brain to the page.  Our trained instructors have extensive writing backgrounds to relay tips and strategies to get students to write quicker, more organized, and with added complexity. In the workshops, students can expect to write essays with several drafts to better articulate their thoughts and arguments.

Writing and Reading Workshop is offered in 2 hour blocks after school Tuesday-Friday, with various times depending on student schedules from 4-7pm, and Saturdays from 10:00am-2:00pm.

The workshop will be led by our IvyBoost writing mentor, Mr. Albert Leo.

Albert received his bachelor’s degree from UC Irvine and his master’s degree in screenwriting from Loyola Marymount University. As an English teacher and tutor, Albert has instilled two philosophies to his students, don’t be boring, and clarity above all. In the workshops, every student has a unique point of view and experience that is just waiting to be distinctively reflected in their writing. He has taught at the undergraduate level for film writing as well as summer programs for gifted students in creative writing. Albert evaluates each of his students to find out their reading and writing level in order to craft a custom plan to progress their skills. Just as he creates compelling characters in his own writing, Albert uses a similar model to teach students how to make their essays packed with interest and drama.
