FAQs on the FAFSA

Since January has rolled around, the 2015 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) has become available for students to fill in to get financial aid for college. What are some typical questions students have about the FAFSA?

I’ve never filled out the FAFSA before! How do I even begin?

First, see if you have all the materials you need, such as your social security number and tax records. The U.S. Department of Education has compiled a handy list for your reference.

This looks pretty complicated. I’m not sure I understand a lot of these questions.

In that case, try checking out the FAFSA Help section.

This looks way too difficult to finish!

That may be true. But students qualify for financial aid on many different factors like need, grades, or athletics, and if you don’t finish the FAFSA, you won’t know what aid you can get. This U.S. News article provides an overview of why students should submit the FAFSA, but their basic point is FAFSA=money for college.
